The Election Fever
THE midterm election fever is definitely on. What with the all the election debates and fora sponsored either by civil societies and other civic organizations going all around us. It is barely eleven days before the May 13 local and senatorial elections and once again the electorate will have a chance to choose their respective local officials, congressional and senatorial officials who will govern them for the next term. It is heartening that the Commission on Election has assured the public of a peaceful and honest election comes May 13. Political pundits have been quite busy in their projections on who will make it in the final twelve among the senatorial aspirants. On the local level our very own VP Leni Robredo has been quite busy lately in endorsing local candidates for the city of Naga headed by incumbent Vice-Mayor Nelson Legacion. Some observers however, say that it is time for Naguenos to elect true and blue blooded natives of Naga like Tato Mendoza. Well, whatever it may be, this writer wishes them good luck and may the best man wins.
TRIVIA: Good luck and God speed to spouses Sery and Zeny Sabalboro who are leaving back for the US this coming May after their brief sojourn in Naga. My spouse Minda and our family friends, spouses Totoy and Cora Reorizo had dinner-fellowship at the Red Platter last night (Wednesday May 4) as “despedida.” Every time Minda and I are in US, Sery and Zeny always find time to host a dinner for us and other members of the US Bicol Association members.
Hi to Jojo Amador of Milaor, Camarines Sur. He was among those who condoled with us during the wake of my brother-in-law Bong Cruz. Jojo says that he is a constant reader of this column. His late father, then Fiscal Amador, was a family friend.
Hi also to Efren Gulapa and his lovely spouse whom we chanced upon at the Aljosh Café the other day. They were active members of the Naga City Jaycees when I was its president years back.
