DepEd officials and teachers attend MNWD’s 1st orientation on water education
ORIENTATION. Organized by the Human Resource Division, the 1st MNWD Orientation on Water Education and Water Efficiency Use Project 1 was held at the MNWD Multi-purpose Hall, MNWD Compound, Naga City participated in by DepEd officials and teachers within the service jurisdiction of MNWD.
Last May 9, 2019, the Metropolitan Naga Water District (MNWD) spearheaded the first orientation on Water Education and Water Efficiency Use Project 1 at the MNWD Multi-purpose Hall, MNWD Compound, Naga City.
The activity was participated in by Department of Education (DepEd) officials, representatives, and teachers from different public schools within the service jurisdiction of MNWD – Naga, Camaligan, Canaman, Gainza, Magarao, and Milaor.
The program aims to equip educators with the teaching processes and techniques that can help Filipinos, particularly the Bicolanos understand the importance of water as a key resource for attaining sustainable development aligned with Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) objectives.
Chairman Jorge T. Palma welcomed all the participants and emphasized on the importance of the academe in the MNWD’s campaign on water conservation and preservation of the Mt. Isarog Natural Park (MINP).
Participants were also able to get an overview of the entire organization as shared by General Manager Virgilio B. Luansing I, while MNWD operation was taken up by OIC Engineering and Environment Department Vicente Aniceto D. Rubio.
Highlights of the said event include the orientation on the use of the module in the Teaching – Learning Resource Package on Water: Nature’s Precious Gift discussed by Dir. Monina Lily A. Claveria. The resource package is a collaborative efforts of Maynilad Water Services Inc., Foundation for the Promotion of Science and Mathematics Education and Research Inc. (FPSMER), the University of the Philippines National Institute for Science and Mathematics Education for Development (UP NISMED), and the Philippine National Commission for UNESCO.
SITE VISIT. Part of the event was a site visit to the pumping stations and reservoir of MNWD assisted by the Production Department.
Further, participants went for a site visit to the MNWD pumping stations and reservoirs assisted by Ricky S. Romero, Utilities Customer Service Officer B from the Production Department.
This initiative form part of the foundation towards the development of the MNWD Institute for Water Education, one of the flagship projects pronounced back in 2018. The Teaching – Learning Resource Package on Water: Nature’s Precious Gift is definitely a valuable tool that can reach thousands of people and help spread the importance of water and the need for effective ecological management. Through this and with the help of the academe, we are one step closer in the attainment of the ESD targets and the rest of the United Nation Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) specifically, Clean Water and Sanitation and Climate Action among others.
