Let’s Buckle Down to Work

NOW that the midterm election is over and most of the elected senatorial, congressional and local officials have already been proclaimed, it is our hope that those elected will buckle down to work and make good their campaign promises comes the start of their terms. We are happy to note that the elections in Camarines Sur including the cities of Iriga and Naga were relatively peaceful there being no election-related violence reported. Regionwise, although some provinces and cities in Bicol were placed under Comelec control, it could safely be said that it was a peaceful regional election. The repeated warning of the Commission on Elections thru its spokesperson James Gimenez of possible prosecution of those who may commit election-related violence has come to the consciousness of the electorate, hence have avoided any situation that may lead to their prosecution. Meanwhile as the election returns were submitted to the National Board of Canvassers and the national office of the PPCRB, it appeared that not one of the candidates of the Otso Diretso would make it to the Senate. It has been reported, however, that in the entire country it was only Naga City who voted straight for Otso Diretso candidates. This is what we Naguenos could be proud of. Anyway, it is said that hope springs eternal and may be luck would be with them next time around.

TRIVIA:

Congratulations to Arnie Fuentebella for his election as Congressman representing the 4ht Congressional District of this province. Likewise, congratulations to our good friend Awel Llaguno for his election as member of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan representing the same district. Despite the massive radio and TV commercials of Arnie’s opponent, he won the election with a sizable majority over his rival. This shows that the Fuentebella family still holds political influence in the district. As political pundits put it, the district is still a “Fuentebella country.”

Through this column we wish to remind all officers and members of the Knights of Columbus, Council 7995, that the family outing will be this coming Saturday, May 18 at the Alta Puera Resort in Pacol. It is a KKB affair.

The members of the Knights of Columbus, Mons. Jorge Barlin Assembly, will have its regular meeting this coming Sunday, May 19. Incidentally, please allow me to express my deepest and most sincere condolences and that of my spouse Minda to the family of the late Bro. Domingo Barsaga who served with dedication as Purser of our 4th Degree Assembly. It was unfortunate that I could not attend the wake and necrological services offered to him by the Assembly as my spouse and I were in Metro Manila for our regular medical check-up at the Medical City Hospital and the earliest plane accommodation we were able to wangle out at Cebu Pacific was last May 13th just in time to vote.
