Albay jail yields sachets of shabu
LEGAZPI CITY ---- Anti-narcotics operatives recovered on Wednesday morning 44 sachets of suspected shabu during a surprise inspection conducted inside the Albay Provincial Jail in Barangay Tagas, Daraga town in Albay, a ranking police official said.
Lt. Col Rodelon Betita, Daraga town police chief, said the surprise inspection was part of “Oplan Galugad” that was carried out inside the provincial jail at about 5:00 o’clock yesterday morning.
Betita said the jail’s Selda 1, yielded 21 plastic small sachets of the illegal drug concealed inside several floor tiles of the prison cell while 23 more sachets were found in possession of two inmates inside Selda 4.
Marlon Fernandez, an inmate facing illegal drug possession case, yielded 19 sachets while Joel Selga another inmate facing rape case, was caught in possession of four medium-sized shabu sachets.
The confiscated illegal drugs were brought to the police crime laboratory for testing.
Albay Provincial Jail Cham Zuniga in an interview said the illegal drugs could have been acquired without passing through the regular visitors’ inspection protocols.
He theorized that the drugs could have been lobbed through the prison wall from suppliers outside.
Zuniga revealed earlier that at least 20 percent of all inmates inside the provincial jail were kept there for their involvement in illegal drugs.
