LEGAZPI CITY --- A barangay chairman and his chief tanod or watchman were hurt in a gun attack on Monday night while the unidentified suspect in the incident was killed by police operatives in the ensuing shootout in Placer, Masbate, a police report said.

Major Maria Luisa Calubaquib, Police Regional Office-5 (Bicol) spokesperson, identified the wounded village official as Antonio Jose Aum, 50, of Barangay San Marcos, and Graciano Condrillon, 45, chief watchman of the village.

Calubaquib said the victims were at a store around 6:00 p.m. when two suspects, armed with hand guns, approached the victims and shot them.

Policemen responded to the scene but the attackers engaged them in a brief firefight, resulting in the killing of one of the suspects while the other managed to escape unhurt.

Lawmen are still pursuing the other suspect while investigators are determining the motive of the attack.
