DOST V leads Bicol’s Science-Technology Week
THE Department of Science and Technology Region V (DOST V) will lead the 2019 Regional Science and Technology Week (RSTW) on 08-10 October 2019 together with S&T networks/ consortia namely the Bicol Consortium for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research & Development (BCAARRD), Bicol Consortium for Health Research & Development (BCHRD) and Bicol Consortium for Industry, Energy & Emerging Technologies Research & Development (BCIEERD), and DOST institutes/councils [Technology Application and Promotion Institute (DOST-TAPI), Philippine Science High School – Bicol Region Campus (DOST-PSHS BRC), Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (DOST-PHIVOLCS), and Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (DOST-PAGASA)], and the Bicol State College of Applied Science and Technology (BISCAST) as host/venue.
This year’s RSTW will feature the S&T Exhibit, Forum, Opening/Closing Programs, Awarding Ceremonies (Plaque of Ownership to Graduated SETUP Customers, Best SETUP Adoptor and Best CEST Community; Project Launch/Signing (Bicol Science Centrum Rehabilitation and Refurbishment, Lot Donation of CNSC to PSTC-Camarines Norte, Pili NICER at BUCAF, Engineering Innovation Center at BISCAST, Modernization of Albay Dairy Plant to Province of Albay and FoodSAFE: Food Safety Assurance for Every Juan) and others. To participate in the various activities are officials/representatives from government and private institutions, academe, media and local government units (LGUs).
Another main S&T event simultaneous with the 2019 RSTW Celebration is the 2019 Bicol Regional Invention Contests and Exhibits (BRICE) where inventors, makers, designers and professional/student researchers will convene and compete for six (6) BRICE awards such as the Outstanding Invention (Tuklas Award), Outstanding Utility Model (UM), Outstanding Industrial Design (ID), Outstanding Creative Research (Likha Award), and Outstanding Student Creative Research (Sibol Award) for High School and College Students. Bicolano regional champions will represent the region and vie for the national awards in the National Invention Contests and Exhibits (NICE) during the National Inventors Week (NIW) in November 2020.
Following the theme for 2019 National Science and Technology Week (NSTW), “Science for the People: Enabling Technologies for Sustainable Development” is also the theme for the 2019 RSTW and BRICE. For Bicol, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) group/cluster includes Resilience and Innovation; Equity and Growth in the Countryside; Food Security, Energy and Environment; and S&T Human Resource Development.
