Death due to dengue on downtrend

LEGAZPI CITY --- Amidst the spike in dengue cases in Bicol with over 8,000 cases recorded during the past three quarters of this year, the good news is that morbidity and mortality rate has been moving on a downtrend, a report from the Department of Health (DOH) in Bicol said.

Dr. Ernie Vera, DOH regional director, in a phone interview said that for the period January 2019 to September 21, 2019, their office has recorded 8,227 dengue cases with 63 deaths.

Dengue cases were high in Camarines Sur with 3,482 cases, followed by Sorsogon with 1,708 cases, Albay-1,258 cases, Catanduanes-885 cases, Masbate-514 cases, and Camarines Norte with 362 cases.

Provinces placed under a state of calamity were Albay and Catanduanes.

Currently, there are 93 barangays in 33 towns and cities across the region that were declared as dengue “hot spots” due to the increasing incidence of dengue, although reports of deaths have been noted to be going downwards.
