Forum on Bikol literature, cinema set in Masbate City
NAGA CITY --- The landmark anthology, Pagtuod, a collection of European stories translated into Tigaonon and Minasbate, will be launched on October 7, 2019 at the Osmeña Colleges in Masbate City.
The much-anticipated event is Jointly sponsored by the Ateneo de Naga University Press, the Savage Mind Bookshop, and the local government of Masbate City under the leadership of Mayor Rowena Tuason, in cooperation with the Czech Embassy in Manila.
The book is co-selected and co-edited by former Czech Ambassador to the Philippines, Jaroslav Olša Jr, Palanca award-winning poet and television writer En Villasis who hails from Milagros, Masbate, and teacher Clinton Abilong.
The translators include Glenn Clemente Almodal, Roda Añosa, Prada Rejuso, and Fr. Val Andales.
The book project is part of the three anthologies which received funding assistance from BDO Inc. The other two anthologies are in translations in Bikol and Waray languages.
In her recent visit to Bikol, the newly appointed Czech Ambassador Jana Sediva assured their commitment to support cultural endeavors that her predecessor initiated.
ADNU press deputy director Kristian Cordero who is an award-winning poet, translator and filmmaker, will be present in a forum on Bikol literature and during the screening of his second Bikol film, Hinulid, which stars legendary actor, Nora Aunor.
Professor Cordero will lead the discussion about their work as a university press in the region, and the intersections between literature and cinema as evinced in his creative works. Expected to attend are Masbate City teachers and students who will surely benefit from this undertaking particularly those who are involve in cultural and language educations.
