Urban poor benefits from ‘Serbisyo para sa Tao’

DAET, Camarines Norte --- The disadvantaged sectors from the urban poor areas of Daet town benefited the “Pinagsama-samang Serbisyo Para sa Tao” caravan led by the Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor (PCUP) held at the covered court of the said municipality, October 11.

The activity was supported by the local government unit of Daet and national government agencies that provided services such as medical and dental including medicines, jobs fair, livelihood, wellness like haircut and massage, legal assistance, business consultancy, social services and information to avail housing, financial support, vital statistics among others.

PCUP Chairperson and CEO Alvin S. Feliciano said that the caravan aims to bring its services and programs to the people for them to feel the presence of government in our society.

He said that the caravan will also increase awareness among disadvantaged sectors about government services and programs thereby empower them to take part in the said endeavor.

Daet town is the 34th area that the PCUP hold its caravan throughout the country this year where more than 70,000 benefited already from the program.

The PCUP targeted 58 caravans to be conducted this year in the country with the support of national government agencies in the locality and local government units.

They will also launch Adopt an Urban Poor Community on November aimed to provide potable drinking water and construct Day Care Centers with the support of foundations or corporations.

There will be 2 urban communities each in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao as well as in Metro Manila for the Adopt an Urban Poor Community program.

He added that projects are on its way to have an Urban Poor Privileged Card for the 10 percent discount in services and purchases of poor sectors.

Among the participating agencies include ; Philippine Army (PA), Philippine National Police (PNP), Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Philippine Information Agency (PIA), Public Attorney Office (PAO), Technical Education Skills and Development Authority (TESDA), Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) with Local Civil Registrar, Department of Health (DOH) with Provincial Health Office (PHO) and National Housing Authority (NHA).

The Liga ng Mga Barangay and Federation of Tricycle Operators and Drivers Association (FETODA) in Daet and several non-government organizations also supported the activity.
