NAGA CITY --- “Ensuring that our city is resilient – is one of the major concerns of the Legacion administration. In fact, it is for that reason and as a concrete manifestation of our commitment, we have already decided, and we are now working on establishing a Public Safety and Disaster Resilience Center in Naga City.”

This was the assurance made by Naga City Mayor Nelson Legacion during the Bicol Business Month (BBM) press conference held at the Metro Naga Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MNCCI) office at JMR Coliseum in Barangay Triangulo, here.

The establishment of PSDRC is also in support to the MNCCI under the headship of its president, Ferdinand Sia, who happens to be the current Chairman of the Asia Pacific Alliance for Disaster Management (APAD) Bicol Regional Platform which was launched early last year.

A-PAD Bicol is one of the pioneering cross-cultural and private sector-led regional platforms that endeavor to bring together various sectors to work towards one common goal of building a resilient community.

Legacion said that they plan to put the Public Safety and Disaster Resilience Center in a 1.3-ha property in Brgy. Balatas together with other agencies that will be part of the city’s effort to immediately respond to any case of emergencies or disasters.

“This Public Safety and Disaster Resilience Center will be with other related agencies. We plan to include the headquarters of the Philippine National Police and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) building within the 500- square meter property,” Legacion added.

The City Chief Executive also endeavors to put the Department of Information, Communication and Technology (DICT) at the same site, knowing the importance of immediate communication and connectivity especially during emergencies. Legacion said that the city government is working on placing the regional or provincial DICT within the said perimeter.

Aside from the offices and agencies earlier mentioned by Legacion, the mayor also plans to strategically put the City’s Command Center in the said location together with the Public Safety Office under the able-administration of PSO Chief Renne Gumba and the Naga City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office, as well.

He also plans to build an evacuation center within the 3,000 square meter lot at Barangay Sta. Cruz.

Legacion said that these efforts are testimonies and manifestations of his support to A-PAD Metro Naga and A-PAD Bicol in making the business community more resilient. (LSMacatangay-PIAV/Camarines Sur)
