DOH polio vaccination in full swing; over 27,000 kids immunized

LEGAZPI CITY --- The Department of Health (DOH) vaccination campaign against polio in Bicol went in full swing as over 27,000 children have been vaccinated during the past two quarters of this year.

Dr. Monrey Mancilla, DOH Immunization Program chief, said in an interview that their immunization coverage has already reach 40 percent (27,193) of our target coverage of 67,984 of children aged 0 to 5 years.

Mancilla said “so far there are no reported polio victims in Bicol.”

Mancilla, quoting a DOH central office report, said fourth polio case in the country was reported.

The report confirmed that a four-year-old child from Maguindanao province suffered acute flaccid paralysis (AFP) after failing to receive any dose of the oral polio vaccine.

Mancilla said that no similar incident of this kind might happened in Bicol “I urge all parents, guardians to have their children undergo immunization to protect them against polio virus.”
