VP Leni as Anti-Drug Czar

In a live television interview last night Vice President Leni Robredo has accepted her designation by President Rodrigo R. Duterte as the Chairman of the Inter-Agency Drug Committee (ICLAD). As such, she becomes a member of President Duterte’s Cabinet and Co-Chairman of Aaron Aquino in the ICLAD. In her acceptance speech, she vowed to eradicate the drug menace sans any killing or loss of lives and run after not only the small drug users but also what has been tagged as the drug lords in the country. In a similar live interview, Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said that her succcess or failure in her new task is also the success or failure of the Duterte administration as he disavowed suggestions that the VP will cease to be a critic of the President or his administration. To this writer, the decision of the President is a political gambit in the chess board of anti-drug war. It is a “solomonic decision and a win-win solution in his anti-drug campaign. We wish VP Leni good luck and more power!

This writer gives kudos to the Filipino captain of a Siberian vessel who refused to be cowed by a Chinese Navy vessel not to proceed with his sailing the Scarborough shoal. Claiming that he is making an innocent passage, he continued to sail the said vessel he was manning. The exchange of words between Captain Noel Evora, the Filipino Captain of the vessel, and the Commander of the Chinese Navy vessel was heard live on television. For his courage, he was given an award of recognition by his fellow Batanguenos through the LGU of Batangas.
