Vp Leni Robredo’s Unwavering Stance

VP Leni Robredo had it coming when President Rodrigo R. Duterte expressed his distrust and lack of confidence on the former as drug czar and co-chairperson of Aaron Aquino in the Inter-Agency Committee on Anti-Illegal Drugs (ICAD). Thus in our column last week we suggested that it is best for VP Robredo to resign. We said then and I quote: “With this open and candid statement of lack of trust and confidence . it behooves upon VP Leni in the highest principle of public interest (should have been delicadeza) to either tender her resignation or convey to the President her leaving the post.” We admire, though VP Leni’s stance that despite her relief she will continue her unrelenting campaign in the fight against drugs and drug lords. We hope that she will find support not only from among her fellow Bicolanos but from our countrymen as well. The drug menace is not an isolated problem of our country. It is turning to be a national problem if we have to believe the daily reports of print and broadcast media on drug buy-bust operations on drug dens and arrest of drug users and pushers.

Our beloved country will once again be placed in the world limelight as it hosts the SEA Games starting November 30 to December 11. Thousands of delegates coming from Southeast Asian countries will converge in Metro Manila and Clark Field to participate in the event. Reportedly, the initial problems encountered by the steering committee headed by Senator Alan PeterCayetano have already been resolved.Reports are that P6 million pesos has been allocated to hosts the games.
