PNP files lawsuit vs carnapper

NAGA CITY---The Naga City Police Office (NCPO) has readied documents for filing criminal cases against the alleged carnapper, reportedly wounded, after an armed encounter with the police, in the afternoon of December 10, this year, at a swampy portion of Almeda Highway here.

Ronie Q. Estrera, 40, of Polangui Albay, will face criminal cases for violating the Republic Act 10883 or the New Anti-Carnapping Act of 2016 for stealing a motorcycle and violation of R.A. 10591 or the comprehensive law on firearms and ammunitions for shooting pursuing policemen.

In an interview, Police Senior Master Sergeant Tobias Bongon III, NCPO spokesperson, said the police will take the suspect, after his medication at the Bicol Medical Center (BMC), into their custody to face the criminal charges.

He confirmed that Estrera will undergo court hearings at the Regional Trial Court (RTC) in this city but the judge, the branch number, and the dates of court hearings are not yet mentioned.

Based on police report, Estrera have drove away the motorcycle owned by the victim Conrado B. Parada, 45, which was parked at the Manalang Building in Almeda Highway.

Parada, immediately called for police for assistance to locate the suspect, who managed to run at the marshy grassland of the highway. The suspect, during the operation, fired at the responding police officers with an unknown caliber but missed, resulted in police retaliation.

Estrera surrendered after a sniper bullet hit his left thigh while surrounded by police operatives.

The suspect threw his weapon into the swamp, which is still missing, but police recovered live ammunitions from the suspect, including four of 9mm and one of caliber 45.
