Naga crime index dips in 2019

NAGA CITY---Crime index in the city of Naga has declined by 32.13 percent in 2019 compared to 2018 figures, the city director of the Naga City Police Office (NCPO) said on Monday, Jan. 6.

Police Colonel Felix Servita Jr., NCPO city director said that based on record, there was a total of 3,603 crime incidents in the city last year compared to 5, 309 crime incidents in 2018.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) compiles crime statistics on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis. The results of this data are known as crime index. Crime index is subdivided into two, index crime and non-index crime. In the Philippines, index crimes involve crimes against persons such as murder, homicide, physical injury and rape, and crimes against property such as robbery, theft, carnapping/carjacking and cattle rustling. Non-index crimes, on the other hand, are violations of special laws and other less-serious criminal offenses, Naga’s police chief said the lower crime index last year was achieved through intensified police visibility and patrol, coordination with the stakeholders and barangay officials, and sustained anti-criminality and anti-illegal drug operations.
