NAGA CITY---The Office of Presidential Assistant for Bicol Affairs (OPABA) has advised the local government of Libmanan, Camarines Sur to pass a municipal resolution to request the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to allocate more funds for road rehabilitation works of the portion of the Maharlika Highway along the town.

The idea was made by OPABA Usec. Clavecilla to Libmanan Mayor Bernard Brioso, during the road inspection conducted in the evening of Jan. 13. The officials inspected the road condition from Barangay Bagacay in Libmanan up to Barangay Tara, Sipocot, intersecting the Andaya and Maharlika Highways.

During the inspection, Clavecilla and Brioso together with officials from the Philippine National Police (PNP), DPWH and Land Transportation Office (LTO) observed the smooth but slow flow of traffic from Barangay Beguito Nuevo up to Beguito Viejo, where a road re-blocking project is being implemented.

Countless cracks and pot holes on the road of Beguito Nuevo portion of the Maharlika Highway were noted, slowing down vehicles passing through the area.

With this situation, Brioso requested Clavecilla’s assistance in seeking for more funds to repair the diladipated road condition.

In an interview, Clavecilla told Bicol Mail that Brioso promised to come up with the municipal resolution addressed to the DPWH soon.

He said that the road rehabilitation in Beguito Nuevo will begin as soon as repair of the Beguito Viejo road is completed.

He said that temporarily, north and south- bound vehicular traffic will be re-routed along the Maharlika Highway as a result of the resumption of the repair work in Beguito Viejo.

North bound light vehicles or those bound for Manila will pass by the Libmanan-Sipocot-Daet-Sta. Elena route, while south bound cars will pass by Andaya Highway but will turn left after existing the highway in Sipocot and pass by Cabusao-Libmanan route going to Naga.

Trucks or heavy vehicles are not covered by the traffic re-routing scheme now being implemented in the area.

Meanwhile, Clavecilla asked DPWH to fast track all on-going road repair works in Andaya and Maharlika Highways in Camarines Sur.
