Uneasy is The Head That Wears The Crown

The news that spread in the House of Representatives that there is brewing Coup D’etat to oust Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano has led to a sudden revamp of some committee chairmanship in the House by the Speaker. Claiming that he cannot work well with the incumbent Chairman of the Appropriations Committee, the Speaker replaced the incumbent chairman with Congressman Luis El Rey Villafuerte. The same faith goes to the Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee, an equally powerful committee of the House of Representatives. Although the claim of Coup D’etat is denied by some members of the minority group, it may be said that the time-honored proverbial saying that “uneasy is the head that wears the crown” aptly applies to the current situation in the lower house of Congress.

At long last the Speaker has decided to gave way to the popular demand for the House of Representatives to schedule the hearing of the ABS-CBN franchise on March 8, two days prior to its adjournment on March 10 for a two months’ recess. Reportedly, the tv outlet will be issued a provisional franchise to forestall its going off the air while the franchise issue is pending in the lower house. On the part of the Senate, print and broadcast media reports showed that a Resolution has already been approved requesting the DOTC to grant the network a provisional franchise. I am sure that these are welcome developments not only for the tv network, its more than eleven thousand employees but also to millions of Filipino viewers of “Ang Provinsyano”.
