DepEd postpones 2020 Palarong Bicol
LEGAZPI CITY – The Department of Education (DepEd) in Bicol has indefinitely postponed this year’s Palarong Bicol and division concentration trainings of athletes, the top education official said on Monday, Mar. 9.
DepEd-Bicol regional director Gilbert Sadsad said the postponement was in compliance with Education Sec. Leonor Briones’ memorandum order, stating measures for heightened precaution and protection of students and teachers from the 2019 coronavirus (Covid-19) based on the recommendation of the DepEd Task Force Covid-19.
This was also in the light of the recent development of the DOH issuance of Covid-19 Code Red (Sub-level 1) following the confirmation of local transmission in the country and in anticipation of possible community transmission.
Sadsad said aside from the postponement of the Palarong Bicol, all other activities requiring travel and congregation of representatives of various schools and divisions are also suspended.
“A separate issuance would be released on the new schedule of the 2020 Palarong Bicol,” he added.
The directive was issued on Monday to all schools division superintendents, regional sports officers, technical management committes, Division sports officers, and the Regional Association of School Sports Events and other Activities Enthusiasts Inc. (RASSEAE). (PNA)
