Nurse latest Covid-19 patient in Bicol region
Legazpi City --- A nurse in Legazpi City is the second medical frontliner infected with coronavirus disease (Covid-19), the latest report of the Department of Health (DOH) Bicol said.
Ernie Vera, DOH Bicol regional director said that as of Tuesday, Apr. 21, three new Covid-19 cases in the region were recorded bringing to 28 the confirmed Covid-19 cases in the region.
The 26th confirmed case is a 17-year old Filipino female from Naga City. She first experienced symptoms on Apr. 18 and is confined at the Bicol Medical Center (BMC). History of exposure is still being established. The patient is the youngest recorded case of Covid-19 in the region.
A 21-year old Filipino female from Legazpi City is the 27th confirmed case of Covid-19 in Bicol. She consulted at Albay Provincial Health Office on Apr.19 for a possible exposure.
She is currently quarantined at a facility. Patient is asymptomatic. She is a nurse, and the second health worker positive for Covid-19 following Bicol #22.
She is a resident of Barangay 28 Victory Village and was in contact with patient #19, Legazpi Mayor Noel Rosal said.
The patient is currently in an isolation room of a private hospital but set to be transferred at Bicol Regional Training and Teaching Hospital, Rosal said.
It will be recalled that the first nurse or health worker who tested positive for Covid-19 is a resident of Daraga town in Albay province.
Antonio Ludovice, Albay Provincial Health Office chief said the 28-year-old female nurse was exposed to a 74-year-old Covid-19 male patient from Imperial Court, Legazpi City.
The 28th confirmed case of Covid-19 is a 78-year old Filipino male from Guinobatan, Albay. He has no travel history nor exposure. Onset of Illness was on Apr. 11.
The patient is admitted at the Bicol Regional Training and Teaching Hospital (BRTTH). Bicol#28 is now the oldest confirmed case recorded in region.
As of press time, Albay has 21 cases of Covid-19 positive, six in Camarines Sur and one in Catanduanes. The provinces of Masbate, Sorsogon and Camarines Norte remain free from Covid-19.
