The pandemic which we are experiencing has given way to a new mode of working which is work from home. At a time when it is quite difficult to avail of transport facilities the work from home scheme has become a practical experience in terms of time saved and cost of transport savings. We are sure however, that the work from home style will not last long as things return to normal. As to when will this be only time can tell. In the meantime let us enjoy our work from home.
The congressional hearing before the Committee on Franchises on the renewal of the ABS-CBN franchise where the top man of said net work in the person of Eugenio Gabby Lopez III testified revealed that he is a Filipino citizen, his parents being both Filipinos although he was born in the United States, He therefore enjoys the status of dual citizenship it being that the the principle of jus sanguinis (by blood) is the principle recognize in the Philippines while the principle of jus soli (place of birth) is the principle recognize in the United States. As a Filipino citizen Lopez is therefore qualified to own and run the net work. His being a US citizen does not detract from his being a Filipino by blood. At said hearing Lopez was also categorical in his answer that he will never abandon or give up his Philippine citizenship. The committee hearing was suspended until next week’s session of the committee. Whether the franchise will be approved or rejected by the time this congress adjourns this June no one can tell. But millions of Filipinos and thousands of workers of ABS-CBN and their families are hoping against hope that they will eventually see the light of dawn.
