SM Foundation donates equipment to BMC

The SM Group of Companies has continued to show its commitment to support the country’s battle against the Coronavirus disease (Covid-19) by donating medical equipment to hospitals nationwide to help identify and treat severe cases.

Through SM Foundation Inc. (SMFI), the corporate social responsibility arm of the SM Group of Companies, in coordination with the Department of Health (DOH), SMFI turnover to the Bicol Medical Center (BMC) in Naga City an ICU-grade ventilator for use of Covid-19 patients.

BMC is one of the first among 120 hospitals nationwide to receive the equipment.

SM and SMFI officials handed over the medical equipment to BMC chief, Dr. Francisco Sales III on Thursday, July 2.

Previously, SMFI has provided BMC with surgical gloves, PPEs, alcohols, N95 masks and goggles for use by its health workers.

In a statement, SMFI said that “We are one with our brave frontliners in our fight against the invisible enemy. Our efforts are geared toward protecting them through our donations of safety gears, and further complementing it with these much needed equipment”.

The SMFI has so far donated over P400 million of essential medical supplies and equipment and reached out to marginalized sectors most affected economically by the pandemic.

It also donated P100 million to urban poor families impacted by the lockdown through Project ‘Ugnayan’ with the private sector and the Caritas, the Catholic Church’s humanitarian arm.
