Mayor bans excursions, entry of pork products

CALABANGA, Camarines Sur---While several resorts in Camarines Sur province have been allowed to operate by the Department of Tourism, excursions or leisure activities in resorts in this town are temporarily suspended by the local government unit (LGU) as part of precautionary measures against the coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

In an interview, Mayor Eduardo Severo told Bicol Mail that the LGU is regularly monitoring compliance of the temporary suspension of the operation of resorts here for the health safety of residents amidst the rising cases of Covid-19 in Naga City and other towns in the province.

Among the resorts operating in Calabanga town affected by the temporary closure order are the: Kawit Island Resort in Cagsao; The Village at San Bernardino; Lost Paradise Resort in Binanuaanan; and Cates Resort in Manguiring.

The nearby town of Tinambac has also ordered the temporary closure of resorts in the town after Covid-19 cases were recorded, while Siruma town, also a tourist destination, has implemented strict Covid-19 preventive measures in the operation of resorts in the area.

Severo said the resorts will remain closed until further notice.

He said transactions in other business establishments such as stores, restaurants, billiard pools and even internet cafes are monitored by barangay officials police personnel, who arrest curfew violators.

“We make sure that these establishments are already closed at 9:00 PM,” he said.

Meanwhile, he bared that the local government is working closely with the Department of Agriculture (DA) to prevent illegal entry of pork products to prevent further transmissions of the African Swine Fever (ASF) among hogs in the town.
