“Pandora’s Box”

The scandalous multi-billion peso racket that beset the Philhealth involving its officers and rank and file employees has somehow placed a black mark in the desire of the Duterte administration to have a graft-free administration. Realising its impact the President has ordered a no nonsense investigation on the anomalies at the office and vowed to let heads role. This is but rightly so considering that legitimate members of the Philhealth are the ones deprived of the benefits which rightfully should be enjoyed by them. Reportedly, some members of the Senate have suggested the total abolition of Philhealth although the same did not gain support from the majority of its members. Indeed, abolition of the office is not the remedy but its total cleansing by having the right persons in the office who are knowledgeable on health and similar concerns of its members. We therefore commend the DU30 administration on its fast action on the matter. The investigation led to what we may call the opening of a “ can of worms.” But that is putting it too mildly. It is more like opening the proverbial “Pandora’s Box” considering the mind-buggling amount of money involved and the” creativity” employed by the officials concerned in their attempt to hoodwink the beneficiaries of the program and the unsuspecting public. We hope that eventually the office will best serve the interests of its members and the entire Filipino nation. By then Philhealth will no longer by unhealthy!
