DOLE helps parents of 52 child laborers

THE Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has provided livelihood kits to 52 parents of child laborers in Labo, Paracale and Jose Panganiban towns in Camarines Norte to encourage them to remove their children from hazardous work.

The livelihood starter kits worth P802,287.50 were given to the parents of child laborers (PCLs) who have been listed by the labor department in 2019. The kits were handed over to the beneficiaries who are mostly small-scale miners, farmers and fisherfolk in a simple turn-over ceremony on July 27.

The kits consist of cooking equipment and tools. DOLE said the beneficiaries are expected to start their entrepreneurial ventures that will earn them incomes that can support the needs of their families, including the education of their children.Barangay officials who have jurisdiction over the project beneficiaries assured DOLE of their commitment to assist in the monitoring and submission of progress report on a regular basis. Of the total 120 PCLs listed, 69 beneficiaries have already received DOLE’s livelihood assistance. The remaining beneficiaries are scheduled to receive the livelihood starter kits this month.
