Contrasting Focus

From what we viewed on tv and heard from other broadcast media lately, it would seem that President DU30 is not at all against the possibility of a revolutionary government upon expiration of his term of office. When the proponents first aired their proposal, the President’s initial reaction was against any form of a revolutionary government, regardless of who may head the same. That there is a presidential change of mind is quite obvious. Even presidential spokesperson Harry Roque has confirmed the new stance of the President. Well, as a popular song goes, and I quote: Que Sera Sera, whatever will be will be, Que Sera Sera.”

Some experts however, like Atty. Antonio La Vina, former undersecretary of DENR, and former Dean of the Ateneo School of Government, maintains that if the people behind the call for a revolutionary government genuinely want change, the coming elections can be a vehicle for that change. He observes that it is a contradiction that they want the President to stay in power while calling for something as destabilizing as a revolutionary government. It is, simply put, quite untimely given the pandemic we are struggling to fight against.

Meanwhile, kudos to the Naga City government for launching the contact tracing app named eSalvar as of this writing - the latest among the good practices it has so far been able to implement as a continuing measure to curve the transmission of Covid-19 in our city. It would seem that the call of Naga City Mayor Nelson Legacion and Naga’s IATF officials for minors and senior citizens to stay home even while Naga is under the Modified General Community Quarantine (MGCQ) has not been faithfully observed by some of our residents. Worse, many have failed to observe the protocol distance and wearing of face shields even when the face mask is on. No wonder, the pandemic has remained with us persistently. The city government has been consistent in saying that public participation in the government’s efforts is crucial in the continuing fight against this pandemic.
