DU30 appoints Bicolano lawyer to housing post

PRESIDENT Rodrigo R. Duterte has appointed on Sept. 4, this year, lawyer Felix V. Brazil, Jr., a Bicolano from Bula, Camarines Sur, as Director III of the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD).

Brazil (right) takes his oath of office before Housing Sec. Eduardo Del Rosario at the DHSUD Central Office in Quezon City.

A private law practitioner, Brazil is the chairman of Kusog Bikolandia, a regional political party that aligns its political agenda with urgent concerns affecting the Bicol region.

Noel N. De Luna, the founder and chairman emeritus of Kusog Bikolandia, hailed Brazil’s appointment as a triumph in continually making Bicolanos as active participants in fostering both regional and national interests for development, where Kusog Bikolandia endeavors to institutionalize political reforms and unify calls for progress by recruiting and training dynamic young men and women to become full-fledged regional leaders and decision-makers.

As a young leader, Brazil served as municipal councilor of his hometown Bula, in Camarines Sur. He became a faculty member in a local university and had short stint in government as legal officer of the regional office of the Department of Public Works and Highways, Region 5.

Brazil assumed his post on Monday, Sept.14, initially at the DHSUD central office in Quezon City. He is expected to be assigned in the Bicol region as DHSUD regional director.

De Luna, a known administration ally, is lobbying to locate the DSHUD regional office in Naga City. The newly created department is the country’s central housing authority. It has absorbed the duties and functions of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) and the Housing and Land Use Regulatory Board (HLURB).

It is currently headed by Sec. Eduardo D. Del Rosario.

The DHSUD aims to address the housing gap and help the national government pump prime the economy through sustained real estate activities during these challenging times. (BicolBloc)
