229 hurdle Naga’s Iskolar kan Ciudad

Some 229 applicants passed the Naga City government’s college scholarship program for School Year 2021-2022.
Mayor Nelson Legacion expressed hope that with the scholarship grants the students who belong to families in disadvantaged sector will become more inspired to pursue their studies “so that they can be able to help their own families to achieve a better life and become productive citizens of the city.”
The scholarship program, which is being implemented every year, is based on the Naga’s Tertiary Scholarship Ordinance that the city mayor has authored when he was still a member of the Sangguniang Panlungsod.
He said that based on the ordinance, the city government will provide the scholars with varying amounts of money as educational assistance, which are being determined through the grades obtained by the students in the qualifying examinations.
The number of scholars and the corresponding amount of educational assistance per semester are: 25 scholars will receive P20,000 or P22,000 each; 47 will receive P15,000 each; 77 at P11,000 each, and 80 at P8,000.
Legacion is also the author of an ordinance enjoining the city’s 27 barangays to establish their own scholarship programs with funds coming from the annual budget of each Sangguniang Kabataan.
