The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Bicol through its Albay Provincial Field Office distributed monetary allowance to 339 beneficiaries of the Government Internship Program (GIP) deployed in various local government units (LGUs) in Albay recently.

Johana VI Gasga, DOLE Bicol spokesperson, said some 199 beneficiaries were from Malinao, Bacacay, and Tabaco City who received P857,000.00 cash allowance while 140 were from Albay Provincial Agriculture Office (APAO), Provincial Government (PG) of Albay, and Guinobatan LGU who received P1.4 million.

“The recipients were grateful to DOLE as this program helped them become productive through their internship in the government service in this time of the pandemic,” DOLE said.

Angelica Quintos, one of the beneficiaries from Guinobatan town in Albay said the “GIP is a big help for me. At this time, we need financial support for ourselves and for our family.”

Quintos added that the GIP of DOLE is a way to expose an individual in government work.

The GIP will enhance the skills that we have that we can use in the near future if we apply in other sectors or government agencies, she said.

While Hazel Añonuevo, from PG- Albay believed that the GIP is an opportunity for fresh graduates.

“This is a good opportunity for us especially with the pandemics and with GIP we’re able to help our family,” she said.

The Government Internship Program (GIP), a component of KABATAAN 2000 under Executive Order (EO) no. 139 s. 1993, and DOLE Administrative Order No. 260-15, aims to provide opportunities and engage young workers to serve the general public in government agencies or entities projects and programs at the national and local level.

It also provides young workers, particularly the poor and indigent and young workers, opportunity to demonstrate their talents and skills in the field of public service with the ultimate objective of attracting the best and the brightest who want to pursue a career in government service, particularly in the fields and disciplines related to labor and employment.
