A “Cut Above The Rest”
We learned from recent TV and other broadcast media reports that two (2) young Filipinos were selected as National Geographic Youth Explorers. One comes from the Cordilleras and the other comes from Bicol in the person of Louise Mabolo, daughter of Mayor and Mrs. Fermin Mabolo of San Fernando, Camarines Sur. It was with pride and elation that we watched the youthful bicolana intelligently respond to the interview on TV. This does not come as a surprise however, to us especially to my spouse Minda who is an admirer of this young lady having met her a few times in the past. Early on, Minda had the feeling then that she was going far in whatever endeavour she pursues. True enough this is a feather in her cap as she has been given national and international recognition for her diverse achievements. She has all the qualities that make for success. She has industry, courage, determination, self-confidence and passion in everything that she does which makes her a good role model and inspiration for the youth, especially during these challenging times. I will be remiss if I do not mention here that her home environment and the way she has been reared and educated has a lot to do with what she is now. This reminds me of a saying that you can tell the tree from its fruits.
The recent surge of incidence of Covid 19 and several variants deserve serious considerations. While it is understandable that we have to recoup our economic loss, it may be the better part of prudence to wait until our country’s various programs are totally implemented. It appears from reports aired over radio, tv and other social media that some sectors and the general population have become complacent and careless in the observance of established medical protocols. Is this also a reflection on how irresponsible some of us have become, especially in the way our individual actions can affect the collective well-being of our community?

QUOTATION OF THE WEEK:
“IT IS WHILE WE ARE YOUNG THAT HABIT OF INDUSTRY IS FORMED. IF NOT THEN, IT NEVER IS AFTERWARDS. THE FORTUNE OF OUR LIVES, THEREFORE, DEPENDS ON EMPLOYING WELL THE SHORT PERIOD OF YOUTH.”
