Aboitiz Foundation to give chicken layers to Legazpi

By Cet Dematera

The private-owned PILMICO Feeds of Aboitiz Foundation is set to donate some 192 chicken layers to the Legazpi City Veterinary Office (CVO) third week of September.

CVO chief Dr. Emmanuel Estipona said the layers dubbed as ‘egg machine’ is a project of the CVO in partnership with the Legazpi City Women’s Federation (LCWF) and the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO).

Estipona explained that the layers would serve as an egg machine that can produce four trays or 160 eggs daily for two years of their productive lives.

He said the project is aimed to boost the food security measures of the city government in order to fill the gap on the nutritional inadequacy of households affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, adding that the eggs would serve as substitute for milk which is equally nutritious and even cheaper.

Estipona said that his office will construct the required cages for the layers at the Range and Organic System Alternative Livelihood (ROSAL) chicken center in Barangay Banquerohan, with the CVO managing and taking care of the layers.

He said that the eggs would be distributed by the LCWF to the worst affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

LCWF President Carmen Geraldine Rosal in a separate interview said that once the layers start producing eggs, the officers and members of the LCWF will distribute it to every household particularly those sectors mostly affected by pandemic.

“We can also use the eggs for pantry or feeding program in the community to help those families whose daily income were affected by the prevailing health crisis”, Rosal added.
