VIRAC, Catanduanes --- In response to the cases of domestic and gender-based violence in this island province, the Provincial Agricultural and Services Office (PASO) provided livelihood packages to 20 women needing assistance to rebuild their lives.

Each package included essential tools for processing fish and making smoked fish, and sardines. The items provided were a village-type smokehouse, a chest freezer, a heavy cast aluminum pressure cooker, a gas stove, a heavy-duty stainless steel drum, and various kitchen utensils, with a total cost of P100,000.

During the assistance distribution on Wednesday, May 28, Provincial Agriculturist Ace William Tria urged the beneficiaries to actively participate in ensuring the success of their livelihood projects, despite any challenges they may encounter.

Tria said that prior to the distribution, the PASO conducted skills training in fish processing, which would equip the 20 beneficiaries with the necessary abilities to access sustainable livelihoods.

Maria Elena Tabuzo, chief of the fishery sector responsible for organizing the training, emphasized that the training would develop and empower women with skills and knowledge, helping them regain confidence and resilience.

Eden Esteban, 37, from Makutal, Baras, expressed her gratitude to the provincial government for providing her with both training and the tools for her livelihood.

“Dahil sa kit na ito makakatulong na ako sa aking asawa para makapag-produce ng income. Malaking tulong ito sa aming pamilya (Because of this kit, I can now help my husband produce income. This will be a great help to our family),” she said. (PIA Bicol/Catanduanes)
