Albay bags Energy Excellence Award

By Sally A. Altea

The provincial government of Albay (PGA) is the first local government unit (LGU) in the country to win the first-ever Energy Efficiency Excellence (EEE) Award for government organizations.

The Department of Energy (DOE) conferred the award to the PGA during the online awarding ceremony on Dec. 17 this year. Albay bested Cortes, Surigao del Sur and Zaraga, Iloilo as contenders for the LGU subcategory.

Albay planning officer Arnold Onrubia said the PGA received the recognition for its successful implementation of energy efficiency and conservation programs.

“Specifically, the EEE awards selection committee rated PGA on the weighted distribution of the following criteria: Government Energy Management Program (GEMP) energy audit rating, best practices for electricity and fuel conservation, energy savings, and overall presentation,” Onrubia said.

He said the energy audit team virtually evaluated last month the provincial government through the Office of the Provincial Development Office and the Provincial General Services Offices.

The EEE Awards is a non-fiscal incentive and recognition of designated establishments, government institutions, outstanding individuals, and energy efficiency projects or innovative technologies that showed energy efficiency excellence.

It aims to promote best practices on energy efficiency and renewable, energy-efficient technologies; and encourage adoption of innovative energy management approaches and implementation of energy management practices to enhance business growth. (PIA5/Albay)
