LEGAZPI CITY --- Gov. Edcel Greco “Grex” Lagman has initiated a comprehensive investigation into the reported illegal quarry operations in Albay, citing violations of environmental laws.
Lagman refrained from disclosing the identities of permittees involved, stating that this information is yet to be determined.
In response to the alleged illegal activities, Lagman issued Memorandum Order No. 75, series of 2023, mandating the prompt and thorough investigation by various provincial entities.
He emphasized that such unlawful practices not only breach environmental laws but also pose a significant threat to the province’s ecological balance and sustainable development.
The investigation, outlined in the memorandum, includes validating permits, scrutinizing the authenticity of ENRO delivery receipts and transport permits, and assessing environmental and social impacts associated with the reported activities.
Lagman expressed a commitment to take legal action against those involved in illegal quarrying and urged the Albay Police provincial command and local government units to ensure a coordinated and effective investigation.
Provincial officials conducting the investigation are instructed to submit their report to Gov. Lagman by January 20, 2024.
