THE senatorial candidates under the Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas gathered on Friday to discuss their platforms for the Bicol Region, focusing on education, livelihood, infrastructure, and governance.

During a campaign rally at the Kaogma Grounds in the capitol compound, former senator Manny Pacquiao pledged to continue sustainable livelihood and housing programs for Filipinos.

"Our housing and livelihood programs will carry on. I am passionate about this because I came from hardship. Everything in this world is temporary, so we must take advantage of our strength to create a legacy," he said in Filipino.

Pacquiao also thanked the people of Camarines Sur for their support during his boxing career, emphasizing the importance of education in nation-building.

Reelectionist Senator Francis Tolentino highlighted his legislation that aims to provide Internet discounts for students.

He also emphasized the need for health and social services for riders and reminded the public that he authored Senate Bill 2970, which aims to remove VAT on electricity and allow the Camarines Sur electric cooperative to charge lower rates.

CT-CIS Party-list Rep. Erwin Tulfo addressed public grievances concerning infrastructure.

"We have heard your complaints. The roads, including the Andaya Highway, are always in disrepair. Your airport in Pili operates only in the morning, and the train service to Manila has ceased. Flooding is another constant issue," he said.

Tulfo promised attendees that he would work toward resolving these problems.

"The Andaya road will not fall into disrepair again. We will address flooding by implementing proper drainage systems, not just by digging holes. Additionally, we will install lights at Naga Airport for night landings," he said.

Las Piñas Rep. Camille Villar committed to job creation and providing livelihood opportunities for every Filipino.

"We aim to offer free housing for all Filipinos. Our goal is to ensure a better life for everyone, promoting continuous progress," she said in Filipino.

Villar noted the importance of family and the value of hard work.

"My dream is to continue serving to the best of my ability. We hear your needs, and you can count on us to collaborate and solve our problems together," she added.

The other Alyansa senatorial candidates were former interior secretary Benhur Abalos; Makati City Mayor Abby Binay; incumbent Senators Ramon Revilla Jr., Pia Cayetano, Lito Lapid, and Imee Marcos; and former senators Panfilo Lacson and Vicente Sotto III. (PNA)
