By Mar S. Arguelles

Beating the last day of the Commission on Election (Comelec) withdrawal and substitution deadline, former Camarines Sur 1st District Rep. Rolando “Nonoy” Andaya Jr., withdrew his candidacy for congressman in the first district of the province and instead filed his candidacy for governor.

Replacing Andaya for the congressional post is her sister, Maribel Andaya Eusebio, wife of former Pasig Mayor Bobby Eusebio.

The former congressman who will be running under the Nationalist People Coalition (NPC) replaces Russel Bañez, his trusted staff, who earlier filed his candidacy as governor of the province.

Andaya submitted his withdrawal for the congressional post and at the same time filed his candidacy for the governorship with the Comelec provincial office on Monday afternoon.

Andaya will challenge Luigi Villafuerte, the younger brother of Governor Luis Miguel “Migz” Villafuerte and son of Camarines Sur 2nd District Rep. Luis Raymond “LRay” Villafuerte.

In a press conference prior to filing his candidacy, Andaya announced his resignation as a member of the Anduyog Party, a local political party, and he also resigned as the NPC provincial chair. He handed over the position to Congressman Arnie Fuentebella of the 4th District of Camarines Sur.
