Archbishop announces centenary celebration on 2024

“Ninety-nine years ago, on September 20, 1924, the sacred image of Our Lady of Peñafrancia was Canonically Crowned as Queen and Patroness of Bicol by the Most Rev. Guiglelmo Piani, DD, the then-Apostolic Delegate of the Holy Father, [at the Grounds of our Cathedral].

The 1924 Coronation celebrated the revered spiritual bond that unites the Bicolanos and countless devotees to our Inâ through the compassionate and healing gaze of the Divino Rostro. Over three hundred years of devotion, and moving forward, we enjoin you, my dear devotees to cherish memories of Inâ’s love and maternal intercession, to celebrate gratitude for the gift of devotion, to transform our hope to become a synodal Bicol Church.

By the Grace of God, and in the presence of His Grace, the Most Rev. Charles John Brown, the Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines, we are launching this evening the Year of Preparations for the historic celebration which will culminate on September 20, 2024, commemorating the 100th Coronation Anniversary of Our Lady of Peñafrancia as Siempre la Reina de Nuestra Region, Patrona de Bicolandia.”
