LEGAZPI CITY – At least 60 fire officers who were registered nurses from Bicol Region volunteered to go to different hospitals to help in the response to the increasing cases of coronavirus disease (Covid-19), the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) regional office said on Wednesday.

Fire Inspector Aramis Aristhedes Balde, info officer of BFP Bicol, in a phone interview on Wednesday, said the 20 fire officers will be assigned at Bicol Regional Training, Teaching Hospital (BRTTH) while the 40 were committed to Philippine Arena.

"They will stay for three months or depending on the coronavirus situation in the area," Balde added.

Balde also added that during their stay, the firefighter-nurses will be provided by the host hospitals with personal protective equipment (PPE), meals, quarters or accommodations, service, and transport vehicle and psychosocial support.

The volunteers were deployed in two batches. 40 firefighter-nurses were deployed to the NCR on Tuesday (May 18) and the 20 others were augmented to BRTTH last May 14.
