LEGAZPI CITY --- Muslim communities benefited from an outreach program organized by the Police Regional Office in Bicol (PRO-5) in celebration of Eid Al-Adha (Feast of Sacrifice) Friday.
Lt. Col. Malu Calubaquib, PRO-5 spokesperson, said the program was held regionwide as part of the police's commitment to promoting peace, inclusivity and solidarity among diverse communities.
"We continue to monitor activities in different provinces. Our police provincial and municipal police offices provided simple gestures to our brothers and sisters to show that we stand with them on this important day," she said in an interview.
The outreach efforts include serving lugaw (porridge) and coffee to 129 Muslims in Masbate; providing three cows and loot bags for children in Camarines Norte; distributing fruits to 200 Muslims in Naga City; delivering food packs and grocery items to 175 Muslims in Catanduanes; offering food packs to 200 Muslims in Albay; and providing food, goats and manpower to 430 Muslims in Camarines Sur.
Calubaquib said the program shows respect and appreciation for the cultural and religious traditions of Muslims, while strengthening the bond between law enforcement and the public.
"Through this initiative, PRO-5 hopes to embody these values by demonstrating care and support for everyone. It also serves as a reminder that unity and harmony can be achieved when communities collaborate with mutual respect and understanding," she added.
In a statement, PRO-5 Director Brig. Gen. Andre Dizon extended his greetings to the Muslim community on their day of profound faith, sacrifice and reflection.
"May this sacred occasion inspire peace, compassion and unity among all communities. Let us continue to uphold mutual respect and harmony as we serve and protect the people of Bicol," he said. (PNA)
