NAGA CITY --- The Bicol Pop network today announced its full support for the resolution passed by the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Naga City, which urges local radio stations to play music from Bikol composers, songwriters, and music producers. The organization commended Councilor Areiz Macaraig for leading the initiative.
“This is a welcome development for us in Bicol Pop! A step onwards into boosting the music industry in Naga City and hopefully in the entire region,” said Bicol Pop coordinator Karl Ramirez, an award-winning singer-songwriter and music producer. Bicol Pop joins the city government in urging local radio stations to dedicate broadcast time to local music.
Bicol Pop also expressed enthusiasm about the discussion of a potential ordinance on the matter. “We are also happy with the discussion that transpired on the halls of the Sanggunian, where the honorable representatives also voiced out that the resolution can be made into a full fledged ordinance that mandates local radio on playing Bikol songs,” said Ramirez.
To aid local radio stations, Bicol Pop is offering its growing playlist of songs from Bikol music producers, which is available at https://bit.ly/bicol-pop-playlist. This collection is intended for free broadcast, with the approval of each contributing artist. Bicol Pop encourages local radio stations in Naga City to coordinate with them.
The organization firmly believes in supporting the local music scene. “Whatever the musical style or genre, we believe in supporting the existing creative artistry of each and every songwriter and music producer that comes along our way,” adds Ramirez. “And most importantly for us ... Encourage them to take up themes of social relevance such as human rights and good governance.”
“Padagos na suportahan an satuyang mga musiko asin an saindang musika!” (Let’s continue to support our musicians and their music!) concludes Ramirez.
