BUCAL Season 4 to resume this month

AFTER two years of its postponement, the Bicol Universities and Colleges Athletic League (BUCAL) will resume its fourth season games on Saturday morning, October 8, this year.


BUCAL is the biggest inter-school basketball competition in Bicol region which was participated in by universities and colleges through the years.


In an interview, Mario Villanueva, BUCAL’s president, told Bicol Mail that this year’s season the games will begin at 9:00am, this Saturday in Ateneo de Naga University (AdeNU). Before the games officially start, the school chaplain will celebrate a Holy Mass at the Christ the King church located inside the university.


Villanueva, who is also the Naga College Foundation (NCF) president, said that there are ten teams from several schools in Bicol that will play for the BUCAL championship this year. These are the following:


From Naga City:


1) AdeNU - Golden Knights,


2) Unibersidad de Sta Isabel - Falcons,


3) University of Nueva Caceres - Greyhouds and


4) NCF - Tigers.


From Camarines Sur province:


1) Mariners Polytechnic Colleges Foundation - Blue Dolphins from Canaman town,


2) Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges team from the municipality of Nabua and


3) Shepherdville College team from Tigaon, Camarines Sur.


The Green Serpents team, the only college basketball group from Albay, is the betting coin of the Amando Cope College of Tabaco City.


To participate in the games from Sorsogon City are the Panthers of Annunciation College of Bacon town, and the Computer Communication Development Institute team.


Villanueva said that the winning team will play for Bicol Region against the winning team of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) season 85 and several basketball teams that won big games in the Visayas and Mindanao regions.


As of this writing, the UAAP season 85 is on its way to finals while the schedule for the PCCL has yet to be announced.


BUCAL is expected to end simultaneously with UAAP in December 2022.
