Caceres to open the Year of Missio Ad Gentes

Caceres Archbishop Rolando J. Tria Tirona will lead the local Church of Caceres in launching the Year of Missio Ad Gentes on January 3, 2021, 6:00am at the Naga Metropolitan Cathedral.

The year 2021 marks the 500th year of Christianization of the Philippines. Fr Gerome Pelagio, Mission Director of the Archdiocese presented the background for the Year of Missio Ad Gentes. Fr. Gerome discussed the essentiality of mission in the life of every Christian. Mission, he said, is not to be considered as “work” but rather a reason for being (raison d’etre). Christians, having been gifted with faith, are called to give the faith to others as well.

As the pastoral priority of the Church in the Philippines, missio ad gentes (Mission to the Nations), is also the ultimate end of BEC, the pastoral thrust of the Archdiocese of Caceres.

Later there will be an Archdiocesan Program that will be formulated by all the ministries that will be implemented in the year round celebration of the Year of the Missio. Noteworthy, the Archdiocese introduced the Mission Aid Program in 1995 which continues to fulfill its purpose to date.

One possible direction is to strengthen the Caceres Lay Institute for Mission (CLAIM).
