DAET, Camarines Norte --- The municipal government of Labo in Camarines Norte has begun distributing rice subsidies under President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s Local Government Support Fund (LGSF).

A total of 1,295 households from 52 barangays will receive 10 kilos of rice every two months for six months.

This initiative is part of the Assistance to Indigent Individuals or Families-Food Assistance (AIIF-FA) to provide essential food support during economic hardship and emergencies, as outlined in the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Circular 1, series of 2026.

Mayor Severino Francisco Jr. led the distribution of the rice subsidy to the identified household beneficiaries at the Bagong Silang Covered Court, Tulay na Lupa Covered Court, and the Labo Sports Complex on Monday, July 27.

“The P5-million fund from the national government’s LGSF is allocated for the rice aid of each qualified beneficiary in the municipality of Labo,” Francisco said. “Beneficiaries will receive 10 kilos of rice every distribution.”

Elisa Capistrano, municipal social welfare and development officer, said the beneficiaries were drawn from the Community-Based Monitoring System (CBMS) list, as well as disadvantaged sectors such as senior citizens, persons with disabilities (PWDs), and solo parents.

She added that the beneficiaries who received the rice during the first batch of distribution were from 49 barangays, while a new schedule will be set for the remaining three.

“Nagpapasalamat ako nang marami at nabiyayaan ako ng 10 kilos ng bigas ni PBBM,” said Ofelia Benico, 60 years old from Barangay Fundado, Labo. “Kauna-unahan kong makatanggap ng ganitong ayuda.”

Benico plants and sells water spinach and sweet potato tops for a living, which has been her livelihood since she was widowed 20 years ago.

She is a solo parent with eight children, one of whom still lives with her, while the others have their own families and jobs.

“Thankful ako at nakasama sa ayuda; malaking bagay iyang tulong, kung anim na beses ako mabibigyan ng tig-10 kilo ng bigas,” said Felizardo Calisang, 67 years old, from Tulay na Lupa, Labo, Camarines Norte.

(I am thankful to be included in the rice aid; that is a big help, especially if I’m given 10 kilos of rice six times.)

Calisang has no job due to a heart condition, and his wife’s source of income is a small sari-sari (neighborhood retail) store in their house, which also supports the education of their only child, who is currently in high school. (PIA Bicol/Camarines Norte)
