Camarines Sur ships 1,200 bags of NFA rice to Siquijor

A total of 1,200 bags of National Food Authority (NFA) rice were shipped from Camarines Sur to Siquijor last week as part of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s subsidized rice sale initiative.
The shipment came from the NFA stocks in Pili, Camarines Sur, according to Marbin Malabanan, the manager of NFA branch in Camarines Sur.
Malabanan explained that Camarines Sur was selected to supply the additional stock for Siquijor due to its sufficient buffer stock and its geographical proximity to Siquijor.
Siquijor is one of the provinces that participated in the P20-per-kilo rice program launched by the Department of Agriculture last month.
On the other hand, Camarines Sur is a major rice-producing province, contributing significantly to the rice output of the Bicol region.
“This is part of the government’s targeted response to the needs of regions 6, 7, and 8, where poverty incidence is relatively high. We’re doing our part to help ensure that no province is left behind in this effort,” Malabanan said.
Before shipment, personnel from the NFA regional office and the NFA Camarines Sur Branch conducted a thorough bag-to-bag inspection and sorting of the rice to ensure its quality and safety for distribution in Siquijor.
Malabanan said that the “Benteng Bigas Meron na” program is expected to launch in the provinces of Sorsogon and Catanduanes by July.
She added that this program is part of a larger government initiative aimed at stabilizing rice prices and ensuring availability, with full implementation expected by 2028.
Malabanan emphasized that this is a continuing national government program that will run until 2028.
She urged the public to support the national government in this endeavor while awaiting the program’s rollout in Camarines Sur. (PIA Bicol)
