DAET, Camarines Norte --- The Camarines Norte provincial government provided patrol and rescue vehicles to 81 barangays, particularly those in remote areas, to improve emergency response.
“This rescue vehicle is a significant help, especially since we live in a coastal area. If there’s a disaster, we can respond immediately,” said Ariesteo Arenal, head of Barangay South Poblacion in Jose Panganiban.

Barangay South Poblacion was one of the recipients of the vehicles, handed over by the provincial government during a March 27 ceremony.
Arenal said this was the first time they had received a rescue vehicle, having previously relied on personal vehicles for emergencies.
Loreta Bacerdo, a councilor from Aliwihao, Daet, said the new rescue vehicle will assist victims of violence against women and children, provide health services, and meet other mobility needs of their constituents.
Previously, residents relied on borrowed cars to transport patients to hospitals, she said.
Bacerdo said that while their barangay has one vehicle, it is insufficient for their large population.
“Our operations will be more efficient, especially in emergency response. This is the first time we have had a rescue vehicle,” said Eric Baynosa, a councilor from Barangay Gabon, Talisay.
Sarah Aviado, the provincial government’s information officer, said the vehicles were purchased using funds from the province’s public safety program. (PIA5/Camarines Norte)
