LAST-term Second District lawmaker Joey Sarte Salceda filed his certificate of candidacy on the first day of filing for the gubernatorial post in Albay for the upcoming May 10, 2025, elections.
Salceda submitted his certificate of candidacy through his legal counsel, Jong Bonafe, under the Lakas-CMD Unity Party. His running mate for the vice-gubernatorial post is Farida “Diday” Co, the younger sister of Ako Bicol Party-list Rep. Elizaldy S. Co, who is the chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations.
Salceda’s nomination for governor was signed by House Speaker Martin Romualdez on September 25, 2024.
He will be up against former Governor Noel Rosal and incumbent Governor Edcel Grex B. Lagman.
Salceda, a native of Polangui town, previously served three terms as the representative of the Third District of Albay in the mid-1990s. After nine years in Congress, he ran and won as governor of Albay in the 2007 local elections. He served as governor for nine years and then ran for Congress in 2016, representing the Second Congressional District of the province. Last-term Board Member Dante Arandia has also filed his certificate of candidacy for vice governor of Albay.
Earlier, Governor Edcel Grex Lagman declared his intention to seek re-election.
“In time, I will be a gubernatorial candidate of Albay. In May 2025, I will submit myself to the will of the people of this beautiful province. This is why it’s important for me to address the issues the youth of my province care about. I want to listen to their problems, to understand them—and, most importantly, to solve them,” Lagman stated on his Facebook page.
“I want Albay’s youth to know that their values are aligned with mine. Finally, I want them to be a voice to reckon with by participating in a democratic process that honors the highest of Constitutional rights—the right to vote. I offer myself as the best choice for governor,” Lagman added.
In Camarines Sur, the powerful political Villafuerte family filed their certificates of candidacy together on Tuesday morning.
Outgoing Second District Representative Luis Raymond “LRay” Villafuerte of the National Unity Party is seeking a return to the gubernatorial post. LRay filed his certificate of candidacy, while his son, incumbent Governor Luigi Villafuerte, will run for Congress in the Second District of Camarines Sur.
Governor Luigi Villafuerte was accompanied by his girlfriend, Yassi Pressman, during the filing of his certificate of candidacy. LRay’s other son, Migz Villafuerte, representing the Fifth District of Camarines Sur, also filed his certificate of candidacy for a second term.
Meanwhile, actor Marco Gumabao filed his certificate of candidacy for the congressional post in the Fourth District of Camarines Sur.
