By Mark A. Gomez

The local government unit (LGU) of Canaman, Camarines Sur has purchased a total of over six hectares of lands for its Housing Resettlement Project (HRP), which will benefit around 1,000 families.

Mayor Nelson Legaspi said the LGU acquired a total of four parcels of lands from the Land Bank of the Philippines at the cost of P25 million. The money used to buy the properties came from the Internal Revenue Allotments (IRAs) in 2020 to 2022.

The lots are located in barangays: Pundado, 2.4 hectares; Sta Cruz, 2 hectares; Baras, ; and Del Rosario,1 hectare. The subdivided lots are expected to be awarded to the beneficiaries of the housing project in March this year.

Legazpi said a 1.2 hectares lot in Barangay Tigbao is already in the process of acquisition. Another lot in Barangay Haring is also under negotiation. Some P5 million is already earmarked for the latter,

He said that he will create a housing committee that will be in charge of formulating the guidelines such as criteria for the selection of the beneficiaries, the requirements needed to qualify as lot beneficiary, and mode of lot distribution. These guidelines will be subject to the approval of the Sanggunian Bayan.

Legazpi added that the HRP will prioritize families who lived in danger zones, those who were ejected from their homes and informal settlers.

The mayor said the lands for the project are ready and the certificates of award are being prepared.

He assured the people of Canaman that the lots will be awarded to deserving beneficiaries with no strings attached.
