Catholic Digital Missionaries must remember the value of community in their ministry, a Thomasian Archbishop said during the 14th Catholic Social Media Summit in Manila on Friday, Dec. 5.
Caceres Archbishop Rex Andrew Alarcon, Chairman of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) Commission on Social Communications, reminded content creators that they do not work alone.
“We need others [because] we are a community. We go out on missions so that we may continue to build a community, the Church,” Alarcon said in his homily during the Mass for the 14th Catholic Social Media Summit.
He reminded online evangelizers to network, link, collaborate and depend on each other in spreading the message of the Gospel through social media.
“Bear one another… not only to preach, but [also] to be able to carry others,” said Alarcon, who obtained his Master's and Licentiate degrees in Theology at the University of Santo Tomas.
“Our mission in the digital world is to bring not only intelligence, but our faith, the gift of faith that comes from God,” he said.
The Catholic Social Media Summit (CSMS) is an annual gathering of communicators, digital missionaries, and social media content creators to discuss and promote evangelization in the digital world.
The Summit is an initiative of YouthPinoy, a Catholic group of online missionaries, and the CBCP Commission on Social Communications.
