By Danica Caballero

LEGAZPI CITY --- The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) in Camarines Norte spearheaded the celebration of Civil Registration Month in the province on Wednesday, February 1.

The celebration was off to a rousing start with a “Lakad para sa Kalikasan” or fun walk, beach clean-up, gift-giving, and Provincial Civil Registration Quiz conducted jointly by PSA and Camarines Norte Civil Registrar League Inc. for personnel of Local Civil Registrar Offices (LCRO).

The fun walk started at the PSA office in Daet and ended at Barangay Bagasbas where the participants conducted a clean-up drive on the shores of Bagasbas Beach.

After the clean-up activity, the attendees extended help through giving of in-kind donations to the people of Halfway Home in the same barangay.

Further, the 2023 Civil Registration Quiz was also conducted with participants from the Local Civil Registrar Offices. The quiz is conducted annually to test the knowledge of LCRO personnel about civil registration. Winners will compete in the Regional Civil Registration Quiz Bee in Legazpi City, on February 15, 2023.

Anchored on the theme: “PSA@10: Providing Efficient and Effective Civil Registration and Vital Statistics Through Digital Transformation,” the event was a way of fulfilling the agency’s goal to strengthen and intensify the advocacy of PSA to deliver effective and efficient civil registration services to its clients and stakeholders.

The monthlong celebration is an annual activity in accordance with Proclamation 682 promulgated by former President Corazon C. Aquino on January 28, 1991. The proclamation declares February of every year as Civil Registration Month. (PIA5) Maria Alexis C. Ballester, Bicol University intern, contributed to this report.
