COMELEC says no to extension of registration

Lawyer Maico Julia Jr., Commission on Elections (COMELEC) chief in Naga City, said that there is no change in the September 30, 2021 deadline of the voters registration.


Julia, in an interview, told Bicol Mail that the extension of the registration period is not yet certain even if the modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) was implemented in the city from June 15 to July 15, 2021.


He said the national office of the COMELEC directed all it’s city and provincial offices not to accept registrants during the implementation of ECQ and MECQ.


Julia said that the extension of the voters’ registration in the city will be implemented once ordered by the COMELEC main office.


As of March 30, 2021, there are 104,000 registered voters Naga City. Some 3,000 new registrants were recorded for the months of April, May and June this year.


Julia said that the total registered voters in the city may reach 110,000 by the end of the registration period in September.


The filing for candidacy for the 2022 national and local elections is on Oct. 1 to 8, 2021.
