SAN JOSE, Camarines Sur --- A 7-year-old boy was successfully rescued from near-drowning during the fluvial procession of Our Lady of Peñafrancia in Barangay Sabang on September 13, 2025, thanks to the quick response of the San Jose Municipal Police Station (MPS).

At around 4:00 PM, while providing security for the religious event, personnel from San Jose MPS led by Police Captain Niño T. Luzon received information that a child was on the verge of drowning in the beach area where the procession was ongoing.

Two police patrollers immediately responded to the scene, arriving in less than five minutes—well within the standard response time of the station. Upon arrival, they found the child, identified only as “Boboy,” a 7-year-old resident of San Jose, Camarines Sur, unconscious and being revived by his grandfather, Mon.

The officers quickly assisted the family and rushed the child to the Partido District Hospital using a PNP mobile vehicle. Thanks to the timely medical attention, the boy was successfully revived and is now in stable condition.

Initial investigation revealed that the child had wandered into deeper waters while swimming, after being left unsupervised amidst the busy fluvial celebration. Family members noticed the child in distress and immediately rescued him, calling for police assistance which ultimately saved his life.

San Jose MPS reminds the public, especially during large gatherings and festivities, to remain vigilant and to ensure constant supervision of children near bodies of water.

The fluvial procession continued safely following the incident, with no other untoward occurrences reported.
